Video: Stair Climb Allows Participants To Honor Those Killed On 9-11-2001

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Wives of firefighters in one city have a unique fundraiser this weekend to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice fifteen years ago when our country was attacked by terrorists.

The “Tupelo Inaugural 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb” takes place this Saturday at the Bancorpsouth Arena.

Participants will make a couple of rounds up and down the stairs of the arena, as a symbolic way to honor those firefighters, police and EMTs who died on September 11, 2001.

Those taking part will also get a badge with a photo of one of the first responders who lost their lives fifteen years ago.

Organizers say proceeds will help many firefighters and their families.

“A portion of the funds will be donated back to the National Fallen Firefighters Association, which will continue to help the victims of  9 11 and other firefighters who die in the line of duty. And the remainder, the auxiliary looks to put 9 11 memorial stones throughout the seven stations in Tupelo,” said Melinda Monts, president of the TFD Ladies Auxiliary.

Some firefighters taking part in the memorial stair climb will wear their turnout gear.
Online registration ends Wednesday night.  But you can still register on site Saturday morning.   For more information , go to https://www.facebook.com/Tupelo911MemorialClimb/?fref=ts
