VIDEO: Superheroes Come Out To First Ever Trunk Or Treat

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-Batman, Superman, and even Ironman all put their powers aside for a day to come out and indulge in some sweet treats during Starkville’s first ever Trunk or Treat.

The Starkville Parks and Recreation Department was in charge of putting on the event where over 600 kids showed up to be apart of.

“The kids look forward to it every year, she loves getting dressed up in costumes,” said Scott Grice, who attended the event with his wife and daughter.

As several kids continued to come out and go trunk to trunk for candy, parents kept raving about the safety that trunk or treating  brings for the kids.

“It’s very safe, you’re in an environment where you don’t have to worry about kids getting hit by cars, because no cars are in this area, and like I said, it’s well staffed and it’s well lit,” said Herman Peters, director of the Starkville Parks and Rec Department.

In fact some parents said they prefer a trunk or treating better than the traditional going door-to-door trick-or-treating.

“You don’t need to go door-to-door you can go trunk to trunk, that way you don’t have to worry about who’s going to be behind that door when you open it,” said Peters.

“It’s changed a lot since I was a kid,” Grice explained. “They turned us loose before the sun went down and said to be back by midnight and we got to run wild, but you can’t do that anymore, so I believe this is a little safer.”

And along with the super-heroes, law-enforcement and city officials were also on hand to make sure every child got candy and to ensure a safe environment.

“There are so many familiar faces here within the Parks systems and that’s out here tonight, so there’s nothing to be afraid of. We’re all here together, one big happy family,” said Peters.
