MONROE COUNTY, Miss. – Sheriff investigators say they have broken up a major theft ring targeting commercial buildings.
Three people have been arrested, suspected of being involved in recent break-ins of at least six businesses.
The Monroe County Dive Team could be seen along the banks of a gravel pit Thursday (11/29), pulling a 450 lb. safe from the water.
“So thats really what cracked the case. Investigator Brandon Davis worked that case over there. Early the other morning, Sunday morning approximately five oclock. Pulled some video, we put some pictures together,” said Monroe Co. Sheriff Cecil Cantrell.
Suspected ring leader, Gregory Moore and accomplice Jonathan Dean, are both in custody facing breaking and entering and grand larceny charges.
Another suspect, Kala Fowler, also faces multiple breaking and entering charges.
At least two safes, one from the Cason Water District, were pulled from the water.
“As you can tell when we opened it up there was a priceless necklace in there. Approximately worth $5,000 or $6,000. Of a lady that worked at the Cason Water, that her mother had given her on her death bed,” said Sheriff Cantrell.
“I’m feeling wonderful. Its wonderful. I never thought I’d see it again,” said Tracie Neal, Water District Employee.
“We can tie this gentleman into five different break-ins. But we think we are going to be able to tie them into many break-ins through North Mississippi,” added Cantrell.
The Wren Water District, Smith’s Body Shop in Lackey, and Kim’s Place in Nettleton were the other businesses believed to be targeted by the trio.
