NATCHEZ TRACE, Miss. (WCBI)- After a two month winter hiatus, a group that specializes in Living History kicked off its 2017 schedule.

The Tombigbee Pioneers decked out in early 1800’s style clothing performed some tasks that used to be part of everyday life but are now almost a lost art.

The club which meets every fourth Saturday of the month at the Natchez Trace Visitors Center.

They demonstrate everything from basket weaving to quilt making.

J.D. Jones says they have about 20 members and are always looking for more people to join.

“They don’t have to know anything. They just come. We kind of encourage you dress period dress and have a craft. We can teach them the craft. We can use ten more basket makers if anyone would want to join doing that or chair caners about any of the crafts it doesn’t matter. Basket weaving, leather work. We’d like to have a blacksmith. That’d be great. Even woodworkers,” say Jones.

The group started in 1995  and conducted Living History programs all over Northeast Mississippi.
