TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Students at one Tupelo Elementary school have a reminder of the important role the arts plays in academic life. Pierce Street School received a grant to purchase one of the guitars that are part of the downtown Tupelo landscape.
Students designed and painted the guitar , which was unveiled today during a brief ceremony attended by the young artists, teachers, the mayor and other guests. It’s all part of an initiative that integrates the arts, with academic subjects.
“I’m thrilled, and it’s wonderful to see how it all came together and the children really seemed to understand why the arts integration initiative is important and this opened up dialogue so they really could understand why we do what we do,” said Art Teacher, Miley Wise.
The guitar will be placed in front of the school near the main entrance.
