TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)-Tupelo alderman will meet tonight to decide on an an ordinance that would give police more authority to regulate unruly nightclubs.
The nightclub ordinance was drafted using models from other cities in response to a problem with police having to respond repeatedly to disturbances at nightclubs.
The ordinance would require all club owners and promoters to get either a city beer permit or state alcohol permit.
Also, under the ordinance, clubs would no longer be able to operate as BYOB establishments, where customers can bring in their own liquor.
If the ordinance is approved Tuesday, it would go into affected in 30 days.
