NORTH MISS. – (WCBI) After much speculation, Republican U.S Senator Thad Cochran says he will run for re-election next year.
Cochran ended months of speculation this morning by saying he intends to seek a seventh term in the U.S. Senate. Cochran’s decision positions him to remain one of the most powerful members of Congress ranking fourth in seniority in the U.S. Senate. He will face a challenger in the race though.
State Senator Chris McDaniel says Friday’s announcement will not change his plans to seek the Republican nomination. The picture on the democratic side is not as clear. Delbert Hosemann, Brandon Presley and Jim Hood have all said they wouldn’t seek the nomination if Cochran decided to run.
