COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) The Columbus Riverwalk was home to the 1st annual Holmes Memorial Foundation walk and fundraiser Sunday afternoon.

The foundation was established to aid veterans coming home by assimilating them back into normal life. The Holmes family lost their son to drug overdose after being discharge from service. Since then, they have dedicated their lives to helping other veterans.

“That’s a real loss when someone leaves the service and leaves a unit- they feel alone. We desperately need to make sure that they feel part of the team again,” said Dwight Dyess.

The Richard E. Holmes Foundation is a non profit organization housed here in Columbus.
