WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Webster County government offices destroyed by a fire January 17th are officially open to the public.

Monday morning, people, needing to do business with the county, could be seen going in and out of temporary offices conveniently set up inside the Webster County Justice Court Building.

“Not a bit of trouble in the world. They are kind of crowded, which we expected. And, but since the courthouse burned they’ve done mighty well I think to get this much done,” said Thelma Fondren, Mathiston.

Residents seem to be adapting to unusual disruption of services, and everyone is making the best of it.

“Been planning to come since I got my cards really. But I had put it off. First time I have ever put off paying my taxes this long, ha, ha,” said Fondren.

For right now, services are limited in some offices.

Motor vehicle tags are not expected to be ready till Friday.

“My mother-in-law. I think it was last month actually so. Little late but, thats okay, better late than never I guess,” said Brooke Fason, Eupora.

Most of the structural modifications are finished, giving the public a little extra space to mill around as they visit chancery court, circuit court, and the tax offices.

“I had not difficulties. Things are a little bit different. They’re going to be a little bit slow, but we’re gonna make it,” said Sara Hitt, Webster County.

The Webster County Extension Services is also sharing The Justice Court Building with other employees.
