VIDEO: Winston County Tornado Damage Update

WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s been three days since a tornado touched down in Winston County.

EMA Director Buddy King says families are still cleaning up the damage.

Six houses, including two mobile homes, were destroyed.

King says the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down, and traveled 4.6 miles with winds at over 100 miles per hour.

“The damage is across all types of structures, as well as we have lots of trees down. We’re a timber industry. The trees traveling through the air, when they come back to the ground, create a lot of damage,” says King.

King says people affected by the damage will have financial burdens, because there wasn’t enough damage to qualify for federal assistance.

He says impacted residents will rely on non-profit organizations and neighbors.
