COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) In honor of Memorial Day weekend, volunteers came to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers.
The Columbus American Legion and Daughters of the Confederate sponsored the event. The grave decorating has been a long standing tradition for these groups who take honoring our troops very seriously
“If it wasn’t for those that have gone before us and sacrificed their lives we wouldn’t be here today to enjoy the privileges that we do have,” said volunteer Sarah Edwards.
The Memorial Day holiday was started in Columbus after the Civil War and will be celebrated this Monday.
