Many people have asked us why we’ll be on TV talking about a distant storm when it’s completely sunny at their house.  The answer is simple: we are here to make sure folks are informed and updated during life-threatening weather wherever it may be in the Columbus-Tupelo TV market.

All of the counties in red on the map mark the footprint of our official TV market.  There are 18 in total and they add up to thousands of square miles.  If a tornado warning is issued for any part of those red counties, then it is our policy at WCBI-TV to broadcast over the air (and online) continuous coverage until the tornado warning either expires or is cancelled.  We understand that there will be a big chunk of the area that WON’T be affected during a tornado warning but you must keep in mind the folks who WILL BE threatened by dangerous conditions.

For the adjacent counties in yellow, we’ll do a brief cut-in or series of cut-ins if a tornado warning is in effect.  If a storm takes aim at one of our official TV market counties then we’ll go into wall-to-wall continuous coverage mode.
