West Point Redistircting Plans At Odds

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – West Point Selectmen and Mayor Scott Ross are at odds over redrawing boundaries for the city’s five wards.

Earlier this summer, selectmen agreed to hire the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District to redraw district lines to match population numbers from the 20-10 Census.  But two weeks ago, four selectmen voted to end that contract and bring in a Jackson group called Southern Echo that promised to do the work for free if the community were involved.  Ross vetoed that move, saying the change was unwarranted.

Selectmen could try to override the veto at their meeting next week.  Four votes are needed.

The new districts must be approved in time for next spring’s elections.
