LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — What a year it was for the Louisville Wildcats in 2013.

16-0. The perfect season. It could not have gone any better for M.C. Miller’s Power Cats as they brought home the school’s eighth State Championship.

In 2014, the expectation remains the same. But it’s a different team than 2013.

30 seniors have departed and this year’s Wildcats know nothing will be given to them that easily.

“We had a lot of seniors last year,” head coach M.C. Miller said. “One thing about last year though is our backups played a lot because our seniors never did play a full game. These guys now have to be the seniors and lead the team and I think they’ll be ready.”

One of the more intriguing story-lines going into the year at Louisville is their quarterback situation.

4-year starter Wyatt Roberts has graduated, and that leaves junior Brody Burchfield and sophomore Brady Anderson fighting it out for the starting spot.

That begs the question: Who will take the snaps in week 1?

“Me, I’ve got it,” Brody said.

“I’ll definitely be leading this team,” Brady says.

All seriousness aside, it’s actually a close relationship the two have sparked over the course of the last four months and the race to be the starter is a friendly competition.

“We have a good bond,” Burchfield says. “It make the competition easier but not as simple because of our fundamentals.”

“We played baseball when we were little,” Anderson says. “Working together really has helped us out.”

Whoever does end up getting the nod at QB for the Wildcats will have to lead the team back to the State Title as the ‘Grind For Nine’ begins.

“Basically we need to get out here and work hard and do what we did last year,” senior Dontea Jones said. “We should make it all the way like we did last year.”

“We have to give not 100% but 200%,” senior Jalon Sangster said. “We have to push ourselves in this heat and I think it will motivate us to get another State Championship here at Louisville.”

“It will be hard to beat 16-0,” senior Kirk Sisson said. “But these guys want to do it. We have the drive to be better every year and I think that’s going to help us.”

The Power Cats will begin 2014 at home versus Jim Hill before visiting Wilkinson County the following week.

After that, the annual rivalry showdown with Noxubee County will be played the week after on September 5th at home.
