Video: 3 West Alabama Hospitals Bought by New Tennessee Group

[syndicaster id=’5461496′]WINFIELD, Ala. — Curae Health, based in Clinton, Tenn., announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire three northwest Alabama hospitals from LifePoint Hospitals. The hospitals, Russellville Hospital in Russellville, Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville, and Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, will be the first to join Curae Health, a not-for-profit health system specializing in rural community hospitals. The effective date of the acquisitions is scheduled for January 1, 2015.

As healthcare continues to change fewer strategic options are available for rural hospitals. “The nation’s rural healthcare infrastructure is at risk and we wanted to assist communities in maintaining and growing their local services. In focusing on rural hospitals, we saw an opportunity to fill a void. We believe a not for profit model will work best in these markets, allowing profits to be reinvested back into the hospitals and the community,” said Steve Clapp, President and CEO of Curae Health. “As pressure continues to mount on rural hospitals, many find that they need a partner and a different operating model in order to maintain local access to healthcare services.”

Unlike most not-for-profit health systems, Curae Health has the flexibility to operate in different states and to explore partnerships with different entities while focusing on the needs of sole community providers. The board of directors and management team are comprised of seasoned executives with extensive experience in healthcare. We want to best position these facilities for stability in the long term,” said Clapp.

Curae Health is evaluating additional opportunities to acquire and operate hospitals in other communities. For additional information or interest please contact Sarah Moore at
