TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A Tupelo man is spending his first evening at home in a week after camping out in the Mall at Barnes Crossing as part of an annual fundraiser.

There was music, and other entertainment as part of the annual “7 Days for the Troops” fundraiser.   Scott Burns, who is a Marine,  uses the event as a way to raise money for “Purple Heart Homes” which refurbishes homes for disabled veterans.

He also presented a check to 8 Days of Hope, which will be in Tupelo in a couple of weeks to help rebuild and fix homes damaged by the tornado.

“It’s a great day, to receive $3,000 our volunteers are going to eat one meal because of 7 Days for the Troops, so we’re very grateful,” said Steve Tybor, of “8 Days of Hope.”

“It’s kind of , it’s encouraging that Tupelo still was able to give the way they gave, with everything that Tupelo has been through and we did it a dollar at a time and it’s been a great event,” Burns said.

Although the mall fundraiser is over, you can still donate online. Go to www.7daysforthetroops.org.
