Aberdeen Debating Insurance Cost Increase

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — Three months ago, Aberdeen saved more than $50,000 by switching health insurance providers.

Now about $40,000 of that savings is being eaten up.

Blue Cross Blue Shield has notified the city that health care reform is increasing premiums by 9 percent for the city’s 90 employees. That amounts to about $35 a month for individual workers.

Aldermen must decide whether to pay the additional costs from existing revenues or ask employees to pay some of the increase.
