Video: New Jobs Could Come To Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – After nearly 18 months, Aberdeen city officials hope to close a deal that could eventually bring 100 jobs to the city. In July 2012, Birmingham-based SPW Associates agreed to buy land at the city-owned port and paid $10,000 down. But since then, little has happened and the company and its partners, Centra Energy, still owe the city almost $200,000. Officials say they are optimistic the land deal could close this month. Even so, the company must finalize permits, complete financing and spend 18 months building a plant that would turn feed stock into alternative fuels. The biofuels industry has been slowed by a lack of financing, uncertainty about federal regulations and other issues.
