Aberdeen Man Charged in West Point ID Thefts

WEST POINT, Miss. — An Aberdeen man has been arrested and charged in connection with a myriad of identity theft cases in West Point. 30 year old John Edward Patterson, Jr. was arrested October 23. His last known address was 307 Hardy St. Aberdeen, Ms. He has been held in the Clay County Jail under a $30,000 bond.

This case has been developing since early September. On September 3, 2013 it was reported by the victim, whose name is not being released, that someone was using their bank debit card to make cash withdrawals. At least nine (9) withdrawals were made over a three month period totaling over $2,500.

With the assistance of surveillance equipment at the ATM and the banking institution investigators were able to positively identify the thief responsible. Mr. Patterson is facing numerous felony charges including; Identity theft, Fraud, Personal Identity information, fraudulently obtaining goods and false ID. Other charges are pending.

Mr. Edwards was arrested with the assistance of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, transported to Clay County and detained. A hold has been placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections because he has prior felony convictions and he may have violated the terms of his release.
