Video: Accident Leaves Lowndes Cycler Seriously Injured

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A woman is seriously injured after being struck by a car while riding her bicycle this morning in Lowndes County.

The 48-year-old cyclist Lisa Landrum, an accomplished triathlete, had just left her home on Spivey Road in Lowndes County at about 11 a.m. this morning when her touring bike was struck from behind by a Ford LTD driven by a 79-year-old woman who was on her way to her home nearby. Both were eastbound on Spivey Road.

The accident happened at the crest of hill about a half mile from Highway 45. The cyclist was thrown into the car’s windshield and tossed about 75 feet onto the road shoulder.
Landrum’s helmet was thrown off by the impact.

She was taken to Baptist Golden Triangle before being airlifted to Jackson, where she remains in critical condition.

Landrum suffered serious head injures, as well as broken vertebrae and a broken arm.
