Ackerman native Andrew Furr came on for a pinch-hit RBI single in the 9th to give the Golden Eagles the win over Ole Miss.

The Golden Eagles (19-17) won their eighth-straight victory as it is the longest winning streak for the program since winning 12 consecutive games from April 23-May 15, 2010.

In the pivotal ninth frame, Bradley Roney led off the inning by being hit by a pitch by Rebel reliever Aaron Greenwood, the fourth of five UM pitchers in the game. After a sacrifice by Isaac Rodriguez and a flyout, Furr connected on the first pitch from Greenwood that got by the Ole Miss second baseman Preston Overbey and Roney scored the game-winning run from second.

Roney then moved from third base to pitch in the bottom of the ninth and retired the 3-4-5 hitters in the Ole Miss order, getting a pair of strikeouts in earning his fifth save of the year.

Three Southern Miss pitchers combined to fan 10 Rebels and did not allow a walk as A.J. Glasshof allowed the only run for the Eagles on six hits with three strikeouts over 4 2/3 in his second start of the season.

Jay Myrick then surrendered just one hit over the next 3 1/3 to get the victory and improve to 3-0 as he tied his season-high with five strikeouts.

The Golden Eagles got on the board first in the top of the third. After a leadoff walk by Austin Roussel, who also added another walk and three hits, Travis Creel hit a grounder to short which Andrew Mistone threw wild of the bag and the Eagles ended up with runners at second and third.

Mason Robbins then hit a grounder to third and Roussel got caught in a rundown, but was not putout until the two runners reached second and third. Tim Lynch then knocked in the run with a groundout to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Rebels tied the score with a run in the fourth on a RBI single from an Overbey single.

The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend when they travel to face Memphis in a three-game Conference USA series. Game times are 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m., on Saturday and 1 p.m., on Sunday.
