BOLIVAR, Tenn. (AP) – A Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent has testified that the man who committed suicide after killing a Tennessee mother and daughter and abducting two young sisters plotted the attack for a year.

Agent Valerie Troutt testified in Bolivar on Monday that Teresa Mayes told investigators her husband, Adam Mayes, killed Jo Ann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter, Adrienne, in April because he was infatuated with the woman’s younger daughter.

The couple were at the Bain home near Whiteville to help the family move to Arizona.

The wife, who is charged in the case, told authorities her husband later confessed to her that he strangled the mother and smothered the teenager. Their bodies were found buried at the Mayes home in Guntown, Miss.

Police rescued the sisters, ages 8 and 12.
