COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Some $300,000 worth of work in the next few months should address some lingering complaints about traffic and parking at a new downtown park in Columbus.

Columbus and Lowndes County plan to split the $200,000 cost of building a second concession stand and referee  meeting room on the south end of the new 70-acre park near the existing Farmer’s Market.

They also are buying a half-acre lot and plan to clear some wooded lots to create more parking on the north end

And the two groups will open Carletta Street over Moore’s Creek to provide a one-ay exit from the busy soccer fields at the north end of the complex.

The city and county also plan to repave nearby parking lots between the Gilmer Inn and the complex.
