Advertising Scam Reported in Lafayette County

OXFORD, Miss. (Daily Journal) — The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development Foundation is warning of an apparent scam that falsely uses the organization’s name.

“We are hearing reports of a company in Illinois selling advertising space on magnets for a chamber of commerce sponsored information packet,” said Chamber CEO Jon Maynard. “The telephone number that we have for them is 309-794-1898. The company name is Team Spirit. Do not purchase their advertising.

“The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce has not authorized anyone to use our name or to sell advertising on our behalf to go on magnets,” he added. “Please report any telephone calls that you receive regarding this matter to us at 662-234-4651.

“We will let (members and media) know in advance if we ever contract a third party company to sell advertising or any other offers representing the Chamber of Commerce,” Maynard said.
