AG Reminds Consumers of Deadline on Previously Announced Settlement

JACKSON, Miss. (Press Release) — Time is running out for Mississippi consumers to file a claim in the $310 million DRAM Settlement. The Settlement, announced in March, involves 12 Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) manufacturers over claims of price fixing. The settlement pays individuals and businesses that purchased DRAM or devices containing DRAM in the United States during 1998 to 2002 from someone other than a DRAM manufacturer, such as retailers like Best Buy or Staples.

While the minimum payment for smaller purchases of DRAM or DRAM products is expected to be $10, the actual payment amount depends on the total number of claims filed. Payments could be $25, $50 or more.

“This Settlement affects almost every consumer and business in Mississippi that purchased computers and other electronic devices from 1998 to 2002,” said Attorney General Hood. “This is your money, and we encourage every eligible person to file a claim to get what is owed to them.”

DRAM is a high density, low cost per bit, memory component that stores digital information and provides high-speed retrieval of data. DRAM is sold separately or pre-installed in electronic devices such as computers (laptops, desktops, and servers), graphics cards, video game consoles, MP3 players, printers, PDAs, DVD players, and Digital Video Recorders.

Claims can be flied online at www.DRAMclaims. The deadline to file claims is August 1, 2014.

Any consumer or business who purchased one or more of the following between 1998 and 2002 is eligible to make a claim:

  • Desktop computers;
  • laptop computers;
  • computer servers;
  • computer graphics cards;
  • printers;
  • video game consoles;
  • MP3 players;
  • PDAs;
  • DVD players; and
  • digital video recorders.

If you purchased other technology devices also containing DRAM memory, you also may be eligible to make a claim.
