Agencies In Mayes Search To Be Honored

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Law enforcement agents from Tennessee and Mississippi are being honored in Washington for their work during last year’s intense search for a man accused of kidnapping two sisters.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children says 11 agents from the FBI, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and a handful of Mississippi law enforcement agencies will be guests at the center’s congressional breakfast Wednesday.

Mississippi Highway Patrol and Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks officers found Adam Mayes hiding in the deep woods May 10, 2012, ending a dayslong manhunt near Guntown, Miss.

Mayes had been charged with killing Jo Ann Bain and her oldest daughter, then kidnapping her two younger girls from their Whiteville, Tenn., home.

When discovered, Mayes fatally shot himself. The girls were rescued safely.
