Ala. Sen. Tom Whatley Arrested on Misdemeanor

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Republican state Sen. Tom Whatley of Auburn has been arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says Auburn police booked Whatley into the county jail in Opelika Tuesday night, and he was released on $500 bond Wednesday morning. Jones said he was not familiar with what prompted the arrest.

Whatley’s attorney was in a meeting Wednesday and not immediately available for comment.

Whatley is a lawyer who was elected to the Senate in 2010 and re-elected in November.
