Alabama Basketball Player Charged in Kidnapping

TUSCALOOSA, Al. (WCBI Sports) – Alabama basketball player Devonta Pollard was arrested Tuesday in the kidnapping of a six-year old girl in Kemper county, WTOK reports.

Pollard’s mother, Jesse Mae Pollard, appeared in federal court on May 2 after being charged with the kidnapping of Jashayla Hopson from East Kemper Elementary School on April 30.

Devonta, a rising sophomore, was a five-star basketball recruit upon graduating from Kemper County high school and is charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

Pollard, a 6-foot-8 forward, averaged 3.9 points and 3.1 rebounds during his freshman year with the Crimson Tide.

Kemper County police said they are still seeking one additional suspect.
