Alabama’s Top Judge: Same- Sex Marriage is Invalid

ALABAMA (WCBI)– With  only a few hours remaining until the state of Alabama would allow same-sex marriage, chief justice Roy Moore, issued a order to probate judges late Sunday that they cannot perform same-sex marriages.

“To ensure the orderly administration of justice,” Moore wrote,” effective immediately, no probate judge of the state nor any agent or employee of any Alabama probate judge shall issue or recognize a marriage license.”

Moore has been in opposition of the decision of striking down Alabama’s ban and says the unconstitutional act is only creating confusion and disarray in the administration of law.

The federal judge in Mobile cleared the way for same -sex marriage to begin Monday. However, Moore released his order before the same-sex marriage debut.

This is not the first time Moore has been criticized for making an overly biased decision. In 2001, he was removed from office after installing a disputed Ten Commandments monument at the judicial building.

A civil rights group, the Southern  Poverty Law Center,  has file a judicial ethics complaint against Moore, saying his comments urging judges to disregard the federal ruling were, “encouraging lawlessness.”
