Alcorn State Looks To Lure Out Of State Students

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) – Alcorn State University is becoming the third, four-year college in Mississippi to waive out-of-state tuition for all nonresident students.

Delta State University and Mississippi Valley State University are the others.

Alcorn officials estimate the school will forfeit about $1.5 million in out-of-state charges in the first year of the policy, saying it already waives the charges for many of its more than 450 nonresident students.

Alcorn says it will have to enroll about 170 more students to make up for the lost revenue.

Alcorn’s current full-time, in state undergraduate tuition ranges from $6,656 to $7,421 a year. Out-of-state tuition ranges from $11,276 to $12,041.

The state College Board approved the wavier earlier this month.
