Alcorn State University President Resigns

JACKSON, Miss. –  An on-going investigation into purchasing practices at a state university leads to the resignation of its president.

Alcorn State University President M. Christopher Brown steps down.

Mississippi Higher Education Commissioner Hank Bounds made the announcement late Thursday.

The Associated Press quotes Bounds as saying that a continuing investigation into purchasing practices has already led to the resignation of two other Alcorn employees.

The College Board is working with state Auditor Stacey Pickering and the state Ethics Commission.

Brown came to Alcorn State three years ago.

The 5,000-student university was named the historically black college of the year in 2012.
