Video: Aliceville Honors Pro Football Hall of Famer

ALICEVILLE, Ala. (WCBI) — The town of Aliceville is honoring one of their own by adding his name to the town’s welcoming signs.

Former Seattle Sea Hawk offensive lineman, Walter Jones has spent more than 12 years in the NFL and was recently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In honor of his accomplishments, the small town of Aliceville wanted to say thank you to the town native for being a positive example.

“It’s not something that you dream of when I got into the game of football but to say that everything that you’ve done in your career for the home that you started playing football to recognize and value your accomplishments is pretty awesome,” says Walter Jones.

It was 24 years ago when Jones walked on the field to play for former high school coach Pierce McInstosh.

Mcintosh says Jones is the perfect person to represent the town and football.
“Even though he’s big timing Seattle and all these other places, he represents small town of Aliceville,” says Pierce McIntosh.

Jones says leading by example, he hopes others can achieve their dreams.
“The mind set I had when I left here was work hard so I just want tot show everybody you can work hard and can achieve a lot of things,” says Jones.

“It’s always good for your students to be athletes in his case student athlete to do well and this is the epitome of playing the game and ending such a great career,” says McIntosh.

A football signing event was held at the city park Saturday afternoon.
