AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – Amory school officials and students have a reason to celebrate, after their school district received an “A” for the first time.

Now Amory schools are ranked fourth in the state for their quality distribution index (QDI) from last school year.

Because of the accomplishment, the mayor even declared October 11 as Teacher Appreciation Day.

Superintendent Tony Cook says he’s thrilled.

“I’m so proud for the school district, the community, but especially these people out here that made it happen,” Cook said. “The teachers and the parents and the students are the ones that made it happen, and administrators, and I just truly appreciate what they’ve done.”

School officials say they hope to get another “A” this school year.
