AMORY, Miss. (WCBI)-Amory School District continues to crawl out of the financial hole since discovering the lack of funds at the beginning of the school year.

Amory School Superintendent Tony Cook says the district has cut almost $1 million in salaries and benefits since July.

With the cuts, Cook hopes the next school year budget will be back up to $700,000 along with a 20 percent fund balance.

Despite the cutbacks, Cook believes teachers in the district have gone to great links to keep education at its best.

“Teachers have done without resources that may be not mandatory but really need but they’ve still done a great job with educating our children this year,” says Tony Cook.

Amory Schools are the fourth rated highest district in the state.
