Applications For Junior Police Academy Being Taken

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Time is running out for young people who want to get a first hand look at what a career in law enforcement looks like.

There are only a few more days for teenagers to get applications in for this year’s Junior Police Academy in Tupelo.

The two-week course starts June 2 and runs through June 14. It allows young people to learn all about law enforcement.

They spend Sunday evening through Friday at the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center seeing what it takes to be a police officer.

“They do crime scene investigations, they go to the crime lab, they go through different divisions, K 9, the narcotics, traffic division, they learn how to do traffic stops, safety of traffic stops, how to perform them . Just the basics,” said Cpl. John Bramble.

The academy is open to teens ages 14 to 17.
