Aquatic Center Groundbreaking

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Work will soon begin on a state of the art aquatics center in Tupelo.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the $11 million center at Veterans Park. The 43,000 square foot facility will be able to hold more than 900 spectators for swim meets. Also, the public will have use of the facility, along with the high school’s Shockwave swim team.

“Well I think you see the strength of the swimming community in Tupelo with Shockwave being state champions, our boys and girls Tupelo High School teams being state champions, you got seniors swimming early in the morning, kids learning to swim in second grade, through the whole , many chapters of life we’re going to get a lot o use out of this aquatic center,” says Mayor Jack Reed, Jr.

The center will have a training pool, along with a 20 lane competition pool. It should be open by next November.
