Autistic Boy Gets Bedroom Makeover

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A 13-year-old autistic boy got a special surprise Saturday afternoon.

Philip Gandy got to see his new SpongeBob Squarepants bedroom for the first time.

About 15 volunteers with the non-profit group, Rebecca’s Rooms, spent several hours making over Philip’s room.

Now he has a new bed with a SpongeBob headboard, and a TV with a DVD player, where he can watch his favorite show.

Philip’s mother, Phyllis Gandy, says she’s very proud of how volunteers renovated his new room.

“I never would’ve dreamed some of the things that were done,” she said. “I assumed some things are SpongeBob, but not to this magnitude.”

Volunteers say they plan to makeover another child’s bedroom in June.
