Bain Gets Six Month Sentence

ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) – Former Lee County pharmacist Jim Bain has been sentenced to serve six months in prison for illegally distributing the painkiller hydrocodone.

The 60-year-old Bain pleaded guilty in December to a one-count information, which is a charge from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Aberdeen.

U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock also placed Bain in six months’ house arrest, two years’ probation and fines him $5,000.

Prosecutors say Bain was caught on a 2012 video selling hydrocodone to an individual on his pharmacy business premises after hours without a prescription.

Bain sold his Tupelo North pharmacy in 2011 and surrendered his pharmacist’s license in February 2012 after an audit of his narcotics supplies prompted an investigation by state and federal agencies.
