Baker Named Interim Coroner in Union County

UNION COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Baron Baker has been named interim coroner in Union County. Supervisors made the appointment Monday.

Baker was a deputy for 18 months under former Coroner Mark Golding before Golding resigned last week.

Baker will serve until a special election Nov. 5. Rob Anderson continues as a deputy coroner.

Golding resigned in the face of a state auditor’s investigation into claims that Golding filed as much as $100,000 in fake death investigation claims with the county over the years. Golding was averaging between 60 and 70 claims a month, more than many larger counties.
