[bitsontherun fJ1nDUSK]COLUMBUS, Miss. –  (PRESS RELEASE) January 2, 2013- With its recent $20,000 donation to the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, the Auxiliary at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle fulfilled its 2011 pledge to donate $110,000 toward the purchase of a new ambulance for the hospital.

The Auxiliary made an initial $40,000 donation in 2010 to help pay for the ambulance followed by donations of $25,000 in June 2011 and January 2012. The latest $20,000 donation brought the Auxiliary’s total gift for the ambulance to $110,000. The 2011 Dodge 4500 cost $140,000.

“We are proud that the Auxiliary was able to help purchase an ambulance for Baptist Golden Triangle. It is through the hard work of every Auxiliary member that made this possible,” said Jerry Kendall, a volunteer and president of the Auxiliary.

The new unit joined the hospital’s eight-unit ambulance fleet in early June 2011, replacing an older model ambulance that was taken out of service, according to Baptist Golden Triangle Ambulance Service Director Joe Wall.

“I want to thank the Auxiliary for its generous donation which helped make it possible to purchase the new ambulance,” said Wall.

The Auxiliary has around 100 members. The group raises money exclusively within the hospital through fund raising projects and through sales from the hospital gift shop, which is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“Since the Gift Shop was started in 1981, we have put all of our profits back into the hospital, and to those who work in the Gift Shop and on other fund raising projects, their hard work and dedication is appreciated. Our commitment has, and will always be, to help make BMH-GT a leader in providing quality health care for our community,” added Auxiliary Board member Fred Bell,
