COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The government shutdown is the hottest topic of the day so we asked Governor Barbour, after speaking to the Rotary Club in Columbus, to give us his thoughts on the impact it will have on the nation.

“There is a partial shutdown and I don’t think there’s any reason for that part. It could’ve been avoided but President Obama says he’s not willing to negotiate over this. Interestingly, he’s willing to negotiate with the Iranians and the Russians but with the Republicans. People want us to try to get things done. That’s what concerns me about what’s going on in Washington. We need to get things done for our country. We’re just scrawling around with no leadership,” says Barbour.

The former Mississippi Governor also says we’re fortunate that the military will not be affected by the shutdown.
