COLUMBUS, Miss. –  The local police, Highway Patrol and firemen aren’t the only ones who’ll be savings lives.  People like you and your neighbor will—by donating blood.

The banks in Columbus are sponsoring the “BATTLE of the BANKS” community blood drive with United Blood Services. A Bloodmobile will be parked in the back parking lot of Trustmark Bank on Main Street on Wednesday, October 24th from 8 AM to 2 PM.

According to Rhonda Weaver, Donor Recruitment Supervisor for United Blood Services, “donations throughout the region have dropped and usage continues to rise. Nearly 250 blood donations are required each day to meet the needs of area patients.” Eligible blood donors are encouraged to give blood regularly, three or four times a year, to keep hospital shelves stocked with lifesaving blood.

BancorpSouth, Bank First, Cadence, Regions, Renasant and Trustmark are all participating in the BATTLE. They are recruiting donors from their customers, friends and family to come out and donate. The winning bank will get to show off the “TRAVELIN’ Trophy in their bank for the next year and of course have the “BRAGGIN’ Rights for the next year.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.

Anyone interested in donating at the blood drive may contact your local bank or log on to www.bloodhero.com and use sponsor code columbusbanks
