Belzoni Man Charged in Corinth Rape Case

CORINTH, Miss. (WCBI) – Garnett Denzell Hughes, 25, of Belzoni, was charged with rape on Tuesday. The Corinth Police Department believe Hughes is responsible for a rape that occurred in Aug. 15 2013, at Crossroads Regional Park.

Hughes has been held in the Alcorn County Regional Jail since Aug. 25, 2013, on charges of burglary of a dwelling, robbery, kidnapping, and sexual battery. His case for these charges will take place in April.

The new charges that stem from Aug. 15, 2013, include two counts of armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping and one count of rape. His bond has been set at $500,000.

Hughes’ case for the Aug. 15, 2013 charges is set to appear in front of the next grand jury.
