Enjoy the quiet weather in the near term because a dynamic storm system will be shaking things up later this week. Here is the latest detailed forecast for the WCBI viewing area:
Tonight… Skies will be clear, the wind will be light, and temperatures will be cold. Plan on overnight lows in the mid to upper 20s. Who said it was spring?
Thursday… Skies will be mostly sunny during the morning but clouds will thicken during the afternoon. Some light rain is possible across northern Mississippi during the late afternoon hours. Highs will be only in the low 50s.
Thursday night… Areas of showers will overtake the region and temperatures will fall into the 30s. The coldest temperatures are likely right along the Tennessee border and that may allow for a coating to perhaps a few inches of wet snow. A WINTER STORM WATCH has been issued for DeSoto, Marshall, and Benton Counties in Mississippi until 7 AM Friday. More snow may fall farther northwest towards Memphis and NE Arkansas.
Friday… Showery and cool weather will be the norm. Temperatures are forecast to top out only in the low 50s but that could be a bit of a stretch in some areas, especially the far north where upper 40s may be the best we can do.
Friday night… Areas of rain will continue but embedded storms will be possible. Some of the storms may produce hail. Lows will be in the 40s.
Saturday… There may be a lull in the action for the first half of the day but showers and storms should become more widespread during the late afternoon, evening, and overnight hours. All modes of severe weather look possible during this time, including tornadoes. The exact placement of the strongest storms is still up in the air because we don’t know where the eventual storm center and its associated warm and cold fronts will set up. Those details should be ironed out during the coming days so be sure to check back.
Sunday… Showers may linger across the northern half of our area, especially during the morning hours. More sun is likely farther south all day long.
Next week… Skies will be mostly clear and temperatures will remain below average.
