Blue Springs Man Dies After Being Run Over by 18-Wheeler

PONTOTOC COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — An accident involving an 18-wheeler at the Three Rivers Landfill in Pontotoc County leaves one man dead.

According to Pontotoc Sheriff Leo Mask, the victim, 50-year-old Blue Springs resident Bobby Williams, was at the landfill at about 8:30 a.m. this morning dumping garbage.

Mask said the male driver of an 18-wheeler truck at the landfill was backing up at one point, and was unable to see Williams was directly in his path. Williams was eventually knocked down by the truck, and was caught under its wheels.

Mask said it was likely the victim was on his cellphone and was unable to hear the truck as it drew closer from behind.

Authorities and emergency personnel were notified immediately. Williams was  declared dead by EMS.

Information on the 18-wheeler driver and what company it belonged to was not readily available, but Mask said the driver was “shaken up” by the incident.

The incident is under investigation.
