Bond Set in Corinth Murders, Victim a Vietnam Vet

CORINTH, Miss. (WCBI) – Bond has been set at $1.2 mill for the man accused of killing two brothers in Corinth. Twenty-seven year old Sirdon Companion Greer made an initial court appearance Tuesday morning. He’s charged with two counts of murder and one count of arson and remains in jail. Greer was captured in Tupelo this past weekend. Now there’s new information about the two victims that were shot and killed, after their home was set on fire. Neighbors are speaking out about the tragedy.

In 2011, Vietnam Vet James Copeland shared his joy of being reunited with a daughter he had serving in the war.

“It lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I’m glad that I was able to find her and we got the future to look forward to,” said  Copeland.

Two and half years later the 66-year old man’s hopes came to a tragic end. Thursday morning he and his younger brother Jerry were found dead in the ashes of their  Corinth, Mississippi home.

“Unbelievable, unbelievable. I just couldn’t believe it and still can’t believe it,” says Sheila Dotson, Copeland’s neighbor .

Sheila and Jimmy Dotson have been the Copeland’s neighbors for years.

James and Jerry were good people  and James just had a heart of gold. He was one of the sweetest people you’d ever want to talk to,” says Dotson.

Police say the fire was no accident they have charged 28-year old Sirdon Greer with murder and arson.

Police say Greer wanted revenge for a situation involving Greer’s wife and Jerry Copeland’s   son.

Ron Harris knows Sirdon Greer and says just can’t connect the man with the crime.

“He’s a nice guy, very nice guy, respectful and he’d help anybody out,” says Harris.

Jimmy Dotson also served in Vietnam. For him, the loss of James Copeland is tough to handle.

He says Jerry Copeland spoke of his Amer-Asian daughter with a smile.

“It really meant a lot to him. His child. That’s what he wanted to talk about all the time. He really did, “says Dotson.

Investigators say the two brothers were shot before the house was set on fire.
