MATHISTON, Miss. (WCBI) — What started out as a school history project has turned into a trip down memory lane for generations of families in one North Mississippi county.

Author Lavelle McAlpin was the Mathiston library today signing copies of the book, “window Into Webster” which chronicles the history of communities that serve East Webster schools. Cumberland, Mathiston, Wood Junior College also are featured.

The book began as a project for a “local culture” class at East Webster. It has blossomed from there.

“When we first started out, we intended to do it just to put it in the library possibly but there was a lot of interest in the community to have it written in book form. So we decided to do that and really to be honest with you, we have had a lot of people who are interested and probably do a re-order because of interest in it,” McAlpin said.
