ACKERMAN, Miss. (WCBI) – The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce wants to to fill vacant buildings and help small businesses grow.

It’s getting help from the Northern District Public Service Commission and several utilities.

The Commission has approved incentives through Atmos Energy and Entergy Mississippi.

Those range from reduced rates to waived security deposits.

Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley says, ” This program is dedicated to try and help the folks down at the diner, and the people at the dry cleaner, and the service station, who are the backbone of Mississippi’s economy. These folks don’t get bailed out in Washington. They don’t get bailed out on Wall Street. They’re out here where the rubber meets the road. ”

The program has been up and running for about two years now, and Commissioner Presley is pleased with it, so far.
