WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — What seemed like an amicable agreement back in January could be headed for another standoff.

Comcast Cable has only paid the city of West Point $6,000 of $86,000 due the city for overdue franchise and pole rental fees.

In January, Selectmen gave the cable giant 45 days to get caught up or the city would remove the cable equipment from the city’s utility poles. The deal was part of a new contract that increased the cable pole fee to market rates.

Comcast has been paying just $1.50 per pole for 40 years while most fees range between $15 and $25 per pole.

If Comcast doesn’t pay soon, the city plans to slap it with a late fee and still may remove the company’s equipment from city property.
