CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo has guitars, Winona soon will have butterflies and now Calhoun City wants saxophones.

Calhoun City’s Chamber of Commerce has contracted with a chainsaw artist in Derma to create a large carving of a saxophone to be a downtown centerpiece.

The chamber also hopes to have metal saxophones made to dot downtown sidewalks much the way Tupelo has guitars. And like Tupelo’s guitar tribute to Elvis Presley, Calhoun City’s saxophones would pay homage to native son Ace Cannon, who is known as the “godfather of the Saxophone.”

Winona is planning metal butterflies in its downtown area.
